According to the historical plaque, it actually opened in 1852. However it burned and was rebuilt in 1855 and became part of the hotel in 1962.

Built in 1862, it is the oldest continually operating saloon west of the Mississippi. In 1879 the hotel was purchased by Ellen and Daniel Holbrooke and was given its current name.
