Meteor Crater is an impact crater created about 50,000 years ago by a meteorite about 160 ft (50m) across that struck at about 30,000 mph (13 km/s). Scientists refer to the crater as Barringer Crater in honor of Daniel Barringer, who was first to suggest that it was produced by meteorite impact.
