Wartburg Castle is the second most-visited tourist attraction in Thuringia after Weimar. Although it was originally built in the Middle Ages, much of today's interior dates back only to the 19th century. In 1999, UNESCO added Wartburg Castle to the World Heritage List.

Das Nikolaitor ist das einzige erhaltene und älteste der ehemals 5 Stadttore Eisenachs. Es wurde um 1170 etwa gleichzeitig mit der Nikolaikirche erbaut. Im Mittelalter führte die Handelsstraße Via Regia von Frankfurt am Main nach Krakau durch Eisenach.
