Deoksugung Palace became a proper palace when Gwanghaegun (1575-1641) ascended to the throne and gave this royal residence the name Gyeongungung Palace in 1611.

Deoksugung Palace is the only palace that sits alongside a series of western style buildings that add to the uniqueness of the surrounding scenery.

Nice place. The audio guide is cheap but still not worth it. Check out the little cafe near the exit.

Beautiful palace and gardens but the modern part breaks the armony. You have to see the change of guards

One of the 5 Grand Palaces, visit at night(open until 9pm, closed Mondays) for a unique experience. Also, check out the Jeong-dong Observation Deck during the day for a great overview of the palace.

Amazing ancient palace that stands in stark contrast to the modern city skyline.
